Elementary students rising to 2nd - 5th grades choose from the options below the book(s) they wish to read over the summer months. Below are the book selections for your child’s grade level in both English and Spanish. Please review these carefully with your child(ren) and support their choice of which book they prefer to read. All students rising to second through fifth grades are required and expected to read at least one of the books on their grade level’s summer reading list. Students are welcome to choose to read more than one book, the more we read the more we learn about our world. Upon returning to school in August, students will participate in activities with their classmates to share what they learned and read in the summer months. Students who neglect to read at least one of the book selections will be unable to participate in the relevant learning experiences and miss out on one of the first steps to transition into the new grade level.

This summer packet is designed for students transitioning from second grade to third grade in Baldwin School
of Puerto Rico. It incorporates the latest insights from neuroeducation research to enhance the learning
experience. By engaging in this packet, learners will strengthen their mathematical skills through a series of
carefully structured activities.
About the Packet
This packet is structured to be worked on weekly throughout the summer. Each week builds upon the previous
week, providing a review of past skills and introducing new ones. This method helps to reinforce understanding
and ensure that knowledge is retained. Please refer to the packet for further details on the structure and specific instructions.
Neuroeducation research highlights the importance of recalling information and applying it in different
contexts to reinforce learning. This booklet utilizes these strategies:
● Frequent Review: Weekly reviews help consolidate learning.
● Active Engagement: Interactive tasks require active participation, aiding memory retention.
● Contextual Application: Problems and activities are designed to apply skills in various contexts,
enhancing understanding.
We hope you find this math journey both enjoyable and enriching. Remember, consistent practice and active
recall are key to your success!
We Look Forward to Seeing Your Progress!
Bring your completed booklet to school on the first day. Your teachers are excited to build upon the strong
foundation you have developed over the summer.
Happy Learning!
