Last weekend, Nick Dunn beat the 3200m Indoor Track school record with a time of 9:43.37. The previous record had been held by Owen Matthews at 10:01.29.
The 3200m race in indoor track is 16 laps around the track. It is about 2 miles long, meaning that Nick’s mile pace was under 5 minutes per mile.
“I used to hate the event, but as I've gotten better, I don't mind it as much. It's very long, especially indoors. For me it's more of a mental battle, than it is a physical one,” said Nick. Nick Dunn is currently a Junior at Badin. Nick runs Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track. He holds three running school records: 3200m, 1600m, and a part of the Boys 4x400m. He is ranked 8th for the Cross Country Badin Record.
Nick has many goals for running.
“My goal at state this year is to finish top 4 in the mile and top 10 in the two mile. I think the mile is definitely doable; the 2 mile will be hard, because I will be pretty tired from the mile. In Outdoor, I would like to run under 4:15 for the mile and under 9:20 for the 2 mile. I want to go to state for both and finish top 3 for mile and top 5 for 2 mile. Next season, I would like to win a state title in cross country or track and break all of the distance school records. Hopefully, I will sign to a good college after the cross country or indoor season.”
Nick heads to the State Meet this Thursday, where he will hopefully do well.
