“Students it is now time to quickly/safely get to your safety zones regarding a tornado due to a warning in our area along with the sirens sounding”, President, Mr. Keating announced suddenly.
On Monday, February 27, our area encountered a tornado warning. Due to that, it resulted in Badin High School going to our specific safety zones.
Since it is only February, we had not had much of any opportunity to practice since it is not quite spring time. Overall, we as students and staff did a great job gathering as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Not to mention, we had kids from elementary schools on buses just outside of our school, waiting to pick up Badin students. Some were freaking out and crying, while others were laughing and making jokes during a serious matter.
Personally, I am not a fan of bad weather like this, so it was definitely a time of panic from my standpoint. Also, since I was down by the locker rooms, I was not able to reach my parents to let them know that I was safe because of little to no service.
Staying in our specific areas lasted for about an hour. Right when we thought it was time to get out of our spots, the sirens continued again. This resulted in us staying there even longer.
“I want to go home already.” The students said.
It felt like it had been forever, regarding staying in one place for so long. Everyone began to get impatient and slowly people started to sit down on the stairs or on the floor.
At last, it was 3:15 and there was a final announcement letting everyone know that it was safe to start dismissal.
