On January 3, students returned from their winter break to find not only new schedules, but also new tables and chairs in the cafeteria.
These new tables have circular stools that are attached to the table in replacement of the previous chairs that had not been attached. Many students are not pleased.
“Dragging chairs to booths and other tables help friends stay close to each other in big groups. With these new tables we are more separated and limited to the amount of friends we can have at our table.” sophomore Brynn Brown said.
Many students prefer the old chairs over the new stools.
“The stools are way too small and they have no back rests,” sophomore Audrey Graf said.
“Honestly, I do not think they are very comfortable or practical. The size of the stools are too small to comfortably sit on and too close together. I miss the 'back support’ of the chairs,” senior Carrie Merhout said.
While many students are upset about the change, these tables also come with benefits.
Mr. Keating explained that due to the increased numbers of students at lunch, the school was looking for more creative seating solutions. The new tables enable a fast tear down and efficient cleaning. This is necessary due to the fact that the cafeteria is used for many things other than lunch, such as meetings, open house, and study hall.
The administration also looked into what tables and chairs other schools used, and many schools use the tables that Badin now has.
