(Mrs. Lewis enters the school of Badin)
By Emma Frodge
After traveling around the world, Joyce Lewis is settling down in high school.
Lewis grew up in Washington State and every summer her and her family visited New Mexico. Her grandparents lived in their due to her grandfather having a Hispanic background. Due to being around the language often, by the time Lewis was in high school, she started taking the class and she fell in love with it even more.
As she continued through college, she taught a college Spanish class while being a college student. It started off a "student teaching" opportunity, but she ended up taking over and actually teaching the class as a whole.
During the school year, she also lived in Mexico for a quarter which was three months. There, she was able to interact with others and get a feel for the language and culture.
The trip that made the biggest impact on her life, was when she went to Spain for a week as a senior. There, she learned a lot and she was able to order for her and her friends. The first thing she ordered was chocolate ice cream.
After that one trip to Spain, she was traveling a lot more and ended up taking another trip to Spain, but for the whole summer.
Lewis said, "Spanish has always been something that I have been passionate about and it still is something I take pride in everyday."
Not only that, but since she has traveled around, she has had opportunities to teach many different groups of people. For example, she taught at Slovak Republic at an international school for a year! There were people there from all countries for the class as well.
In summary, Spanish has been a passion that Mrs. Lewis has had ever since her earlier days and has still been an impact on her life today.
