Students have rehearsed almost every day after school since the beginning of the year to prepare for opening night of Murder on the Orient Express.
Murder on the Orient express is a fun, comedic mystery that follows a train car of suspects and a detective trying to figure out who committed murder. Senior Ava Wesner plays the character Mary Debenham.
“The show is about a group of random people, with no shared background, who join the same train along with the incredible Detective Poirot. Somehow, one of the passengers gets murdered and it's up to Poirot to figure it out,” Wesner said.
There are a lot of interesting aspects about each character.
“I like that Mary is one of the only Americans on stage, that way I don't have to speak with an accent or pronounce French words. In general, Mary is a kind person who cares a lot about her friends and the people around her,” Wesner said.
Junior Patrick Farrell plays Colonel Arbuthnot who is Mary Debenham’s boyfriend.
“I love the stubbornness and fiery temper of my character because I almost always end up playing someone timid or extremely happy. He has a soft spot for some of the other characters, but his anger is what makes him memorable,” Farrell said.
Then there are more eccentric characters in the show as seen by senior Olivia Blanton’s character.
“I’m Mrs. Helen Caroline Peabody Wolfson Van-Pelt Hubbard, from the beautiful garden state of Minnesota,” Blanton said. “Mrs. Hubbard is loud and a tad bit obnoxious, but in a very lovable way. She is violently American and very much a drama queen.”
It is the hard work that the cast puts in which makes the show possible.
“I decided to do this show because I love theater and I love working with everyone in theater. It's a lot of fun and I love getting to know new people,” Wesner said.
While the cast brings the show to life, it is the director Sarah Cline truly makes the inspiration come true.
“I love the set for this show. Mrs Cline worked hard to gather a turntable, and it is literally so cool. It enhances the set, which further betters the show,” Wesner said.
You can see the full cast and crew on Thursday, November 17 at 7:00 pm, Friday, November 18 at 7:00 pm, Saturday, November 19 at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, November 20 at 2:30 pm.
“Don't be late for the train!” Wesner said.
