The Sadie Hawkins dance is coming up on February 19th. This is a dance where it is traditional for the girls to ask the guys rather than vice versa.
The tradition of a Sadie Hawkins dance started with Sadie Hawkins Day. This was created by Sadie Hawkins’ father, in the 1930s, when he was concerned that his daughter would never find a suitable husband. On Sadie Hawkins day all of the single women would chase single men and whoever they caught was required to marry them.
”I like the dance and it gives girls an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and ask the boys,” said sophomore Molly Black.
When it comes to school dances the boys usually ask the girls. This dance goes against the norms and is a fun tradition for many.
”I think it is a good tradition because it is unique and different from other dances, and I know a lot of people love it,” said sophomore Josie Halverson.
Many like the Sadie Hawkins dance and all that comes with it. This dance is something different and this is what draws people to come. This dance is also the only formal dance that the freshman can participate in.
”I am excited and nervous. I am not sure what to expect. I hope that it will be a fun night with friends,” said freshman Kathleen Stratman.
Many are excited for the upcoming dance and hope to see you there. The dance is on February 19th from 8-10:30 pm and the tickets cost $10.
