This past Saturday, February 25, Badin students participated in a twelve-hour overnight event called Night for the Fight hosted by Cancer Free Kids.
On Saturday evening, around seven, students arrived at 5/3 Bank Arena for the kick-off of the event. They sat down and heard stories from childhood cancer survivors, family members whose relatives passed from cancer, and others who have helped donate and raise awareness for childhood cancer.
Sophomore Brady Bucheit said, “I was excited to go this year. Last year it was still covid and they did not have the overnight, it was just a couple hours.”
This was the first year in a while that they had been back to the twelve-hour overnight and the workers were all really excited to be back to normal, continuing to fund and spread awareness for childhood cancer research.
Brady said, “They had lots of food. They had snack tables around the arena, but on the top, they had Skyline cheese coneys, Jersey Mike's subs, Donatos pizza, Insomnia cookies, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and iced coffee. In the morning there were muffins, beagles, doughnuts, and Uncrustables.”
They served plenty of food for everyone. The food areas were open the whole time, so you could get a bite to eat whenever you wanted.
Brady said, “There were a bunch of activities too. They had dodgeball, minute-to-win-it games, corn hole, spike ball, and some other stuff. Also they had live bands playing and a tattoo station.”
The event also had many activities to keep people entertained. There was also a walking competition to see who could walk the most laps around the arena during the event.
Brady said, “Besides being really tired, the event was fun and I would do it again.”
This event occurs every year around the same time. Students enjoyed the event and hope to continue to go in years to come with bigger and bigger groups each year. Join the Badin team and come to Night for the Fight next year.
