The annual Sadie Hawkins dance took place this past Sunday in the main gym. Girls asking guys is the main aspect that makes this dance different from others.
There were many proposals given by girls over the past month, making the anticipation for the dance rise.
“I think Sadie’s is a good break in the school year by creating some excitement. The months of January and February can be hard to get through, so this gives students something to look forward to,” senior Evie Oto said.
Badin switched up some things about the dance this year, changing DJs and taking away their Sadies Sweethearts award.
“I think the DJ did well playing good songs, but I didn’t like how they kept remixing the original version of the songs. It was really loud in there, so it was kind of awkward when people didn’t realize the songs were being remixed,” Otto said.
The Sadie’s Sweethearts award has been recognized in past years. Senior students vote on which couple they think should be crowned. This award was not recognized this year.
“I personally don’t really care that they didn’t recognize Sadie’s Sweethearts, but I know that there were people wanting to be nominated for the award, so they think they missed out. I also don’t see a reason for taking it away when they’ve done it in the past,” Otto said.
The Student Council decorates for the dance, with red and pink balloons and other decorations. This keeps up with the theme of Valentines, since the dance is always in February.
“I think they did a really good job decorating and I liked how they had a spot decorated to take photos in,” Otto said.
Overall, Sadie’s was a success this year and left students optimistic about dances to come.
