The New Year has begun and people are already setting goals for themselves. New Year’s resolutions are an age-old way to change your life for the better.
New Year’s resolutions can sometimes become a habit, but other times are quickly forgotten.
“I think New Year’s resolutions are kind of a cheesy idea. People don’t keep up with them consistently throughout the whole year,” senior Anthony Abata said.
New Year’s resolutions can be as big, or small as one desires. Simple small changes to a lifestyle can be more easy to maintain than planning drastic goals for yourself.
“When people make huge goals, like losing a bunch of weight, it usually will last for about the first two weeks of the year and then be forgotten about,” Abata said.
One of the most common resolutions is to live a healthier physical lifestyle. This can be done in a variety of ways; eating clean foods, going to the gym more often, and drinking more water. These are also some of the hardest resolutions to keep up with.
“I think resolutions that are easier to maintain, like trying to go to sleep earlier, are more beneficial long-term. However, there are some people that are able to stay consistent with their big goals,” Abata said.
Some may say that New Year’s resolutions should not limit people to just the start of the year. Resolutions can be put into place at any time and can be restarted as needed.
“I think people should just make changes to their lifestyle whenever they feel comfortable, and should not be discouraged if it isn’t right at the beginning of the year,” Abata said.
