5..6..7..8.. starting the school year off great! Ms. Brianna Foley takes on bigger and better things, as she steps in as the most recent mathematics teacher here at Badin High School. Aside from the classrooms, she is also a hardworking cheer coach! Not to mention, there were 45 girls that had tried out and we were able to keep 32!
While Foley is getting into the swing of things, she has had some positives and some struggles that have come about so far. One thing she had mentioned was the staff members here at school. They have impacted her in a positive way for many reasons. One reason being, she has made new friendships amongst the others who are math teachers!
Foley said, “ I enjoy being a part of the Ramily, Badin has welcomed me with open arms even though I came from Ross.”
Personally, I think building friendships and getting to know new people is a great thing and I am glad that she feels welcomed here at Badin.
Something that she has been having a harder time with is lesson planning. Foley has never done lesson planning before because in years prior she was a kindergarten teacher, so she never had to do as much planning as she has to do now.
Shifting gears into Foley’s background, she was a cheerleader for 12 years including competition. Something she has added this year was a competition cheer program here at school. We had the opportunity to have one last year, but there was little to no interest.
There are now a variety of girls who have joined the competition team. Also, Foley mentioned that there has been a lot of improvement within the cheerleaders, especially for those who have been here all 3 years that she has coached. Tumbling has also been a huge part amongst the cheerleaders to help improve routines.
In previous years, the girls would use the same routines throughout the program every year. Granted, the sideline cheers would be the same throughout, but a stop was put to the repetitiveness.
Foley and Brenda Weiss (Badin’s other head cheer coach), came together and they decided that Badin should incorporate doing their own made up routines. As a squad, we have definitely noticed that while making up our own routines is difficult at times, it is more fun and a way for everyone to get their ideas across.
Foley said, "I extremely proud of everyone's hard work and dedication and all the time the girls put into cheerleading. I can also see the love and passion that the girls have put into cheering over the past 2 years."
Foley is very excited about the new environment and she is looking forward to getting to know every one of her students! Hopefully, the year continues to get easier for her and good things come about her and her future!
