On Saturday, May 1, the annual Kentucky Derby took place. The winner was a horse called “Medina Spirit”. The trainer is Bob Baffert.
Recently, the horse to win the Kentucky Derby was found failing a drug test. Failing a drug test is a big thing in horse racing, and it was not taken lightly.
“Baffert said his barn was told that Medina Spirit was found to have 21 picograms of the steroid betamethasone, double the legal threshold in Kentucky racing, in a postrace sample.”
However, Baffert claims that he was not the one to induce the horse with these anti-inflammatory drugs. He claims that someone else is responsible for it.
“Baffert denied any wrongdoing and said he did not know how Medina Spirit could have tested positive.”
Then, another anti-inflammatory drug was found. This time, it was Betamethasone. Even though Baffert has denied all accusations, Baffert is still receiving some consequences.
“In a statement, Churchill Downs officials said Baffert temporarily would be banned from racing any horses at the track.”
Luckily, Medina Spirit has not been disqualified from the competition and is still considered to be the winner. Medina Spirit will go on to compete in other races.
