Although this week has a lot of meaning on the line, there is not much of a different energy level for the Rams at practice this week.
Coming into Week 6 at 5-0, the Rams will have a very difficult challenge for the honor of winning the GCL Coed division.
The last time Badin would outright win the division would date all of the way back to 1980 with Coach Terry Malone leading that team, according to Mr. Allen.
“That team was the best I have ever seen, 10-0 in the regular season lost a very tough game in the Division III state finals with a final score of 9-3 with Cleveland Benedicitrine winning,” Mr. Allen said.
Although the Rams have had an amazing year to this point, it seems as if the team is taking Week 6 with the mental approach of “business as usual”. The Rams have had multiple young guys making a big name for themselves in the 2020 modified season including Landyn Vidourek, Lucas Moore, Braedyn Moore, Jack Walsh and Logan Neu, who all have had breakout seasons for the Rams.
Coming into Week 5, quarterback Landyn Vidourek was second in the GCL for passing yards with 620. The “three headed monster” including senior Dallas Rawlings, junior Jack Walsh and sophomore Carter Russo, have all combined for 541 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in four games. The sophomore tandem including Lucas and Braedyn Moore have combined for 470 yards on 37 receptions.
Another key point on the 2020 Badin Rams is the defense, including seniors Logan Imhoff, Micheal Schweinefuss, David Schweinefuss, Jayden Carter, Dane Lauer, Max Lauer and Bobby Young. The defensive line includes three returning starters including seniors Jayden Carter and Dane Lauer and junior Hunter Harrison. Junior Logan Neu is the new defensive end for Badin who got some defensive reps last year, but he has definitely improved over the off season to this year.
“It all starts up front with the defensive line, they change the line of scrimmage every play and make it a lot easier for the linebackers to make plays,” Schweinefuss said.
The defense as a whole has allowed on average 213.8 yards a game while only allowing 9.8 points through four games.
Although their opponent on Saturday at 12:00, noon, will be a tough McNicholas team, the Rams are hoping to change history for their school and continue to remove the doubt and return to dominance.
