Due to the rapid increase of COVID-19 in the halls of Badin High School, the administration team is issuing four more practice remote days for the students to take part in. These days include Nov. 23th and Nov. 24th, along with Dec.1st and Dec. 2nd. These new remote days are to ensure the health of the Badin community, and to try to keep the virus at bay.
With this sudden news, the students at Badin all have their fair share of opinions on whether remote days are beneficial to their education.
“I just feel like it's gonna be a lot of busy work. Also, I feel like we won’t be learning anything at all. It’s nice how we do block days but I don’t like mandatory zooms because of the fact that I have to show my face,” senior Kim Salerno said.
“I think that the practice remote days are a good idea and I hope they will be at least somewhat effective,” senior Jula Creech said.
“I think the practice days are effective because we need to figure out how life would be and make adjustments on what would and would not work for the students and faculty here at Badin,” senior Abby Sandifer said.
Overall we have multiple views on this topic, but the next question that many students ask are, “when are we actually going to go online again?” Schools around the area have already shut down for a few weeks and the Badin community is waiting to see what the administration has to say in the weeks to come about the closure of school.
“I think we will end up going online soon and we will probably stay remote until the new year. Maybe even after that honestly. Who knows really,” sophomore Brycen Fox said.
Many students believe that the school will shut down and stay that way until 2021. Because of this, teachers are going to have to rework lessons and tests to ensure that every student has the chance to learn effectively, even if they aren’t in a classroom setting.
“I always feel so overwhelmed and bombarded on remote days. It takes me twice as long to complete homework than it normally would take on a regular school day. I think it would be beneficial if teachers paid close attention to the assignments they are assigning us and break up really big ones into something that is more time manageable,” senior Lucy Wurzelbacher said.
Updates are being sent to the students and parents almost daily about the COVID numbers in the school, and the administrative team are taking every precaution to keep students safe and COVID-19 free.
