On March 7, an interview with Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey aired. Markle opened up about her family, her hard life after marriage and how the tabloids only seemed to create the drama.
Markle doesn’t have the best relationship with her father and doesn’t seem to have any relationship with her half-sister because of their difference in age. Even though they barely knew each other, Markle's half-sister wrote a book titled “The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1” that was about Markle.
“Betrayal comes from someone you have a relationship with. I don’t feel comfortable talking about people I don’t really know,” Markle said.
That was her response when Oprah asked if Markle felt betrayed by her half-sister. Markle's half-sister also changed her last name back to Markle when Markle started dating Prince Harry. Unlike Markle's half-sister, her mother has kept away from the tabloids that reported on this drama, but her father also decided to work with them.
“We called my dad and I asked him, and he said no, absolutely not. I said you know the institution has never intervened for anything for us, but they can try to go in and kill this story, but if they do this once we’re not going to be able to use that same leverage to protect our own kids one day,” Markle said.
She offered to try and get the monarchies or “institutions” aid for her father. She tried to give her dad a chance which would in turn hurt her future children if they needed help. She talked about how what he said was a lie. Markle was distraught.
“I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child,” Markle said.
Markle also announced that she was pregnant with another child, a baby girl. During this, she also told about her family life after she married. She was told it would be inappropriate for her to go out and attract more tabloids.
“I’d left the house twice in four months. I am everywhere, but I am nowhere,” Markle said.
At first she tried to handle this, but it became harder and harder to handle. Markle even mentioned thoughts of suicide. She voiced how much she hated being kept inside.
“I know there’s an obsession with how things look, but has anyone talked about how it feels,” Markle said.
The tabloids just seemed to increase her frustration.
“They don’t report the news, they create the news,” Markle said.
Besides all these frustrations, she continues to live a happy life with her husband Harry, her son Archie and her future baby girl.
