Every year, many juniors and seniors have the opportunity to apply to be in the National Honor Society (NHS). The students who are eligible because of their grades and service activities are encouraged to apply to be a part of the group.
To apply for NHS, students must sign paperwork, and fill out an application which asks questions about their service and leadership. Students had many different approaches to this.
“I always try to be a leader and speak up for others that need representation if they are unable to, or unwilling to stand up for themselves. I am also volunteering at a retirement community in order to give the neglected elderly a sense of dignity and help form a relationship with them that can be beneficial to both them and me,” junior Lindsey McKenna said.
Many students that are applying to the NHS were encouraged by their parents, and they want to stand out on college applications.
“I applied because I think it would be good for college applications and I wanted to find a way to become more involved,” junior Hannah Ballinger said.
In order to anticipate filling out their application, students thought about what the NHS was looking for.
“I think that NHS is looking for someone to uphold the values that are already established and they most likely would be open to members who will add to and cultivate a richer environment of honorability and trustworthiness,” McKenna said.
Overall, many students have applied for NHS and hope that their hard work will have paid off and they will be accepted.
