Every spring, Juniors are required to have a certain amount of service hours completed within a specific agency. This adds a rewarding experience for students because it allows them to connect with their agency.
Agencies that students could choose from include: the Boys and Girls Club, Animal Adoption Foundation, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and many more.
Many students enjoyed working with their agencies because they were able to help people in need, and make a connection with them.
“I enjoyed volunteering because everyone there was super nice and hardworking . I also loved delivering beds to kids. It made me feel good watching their reaction to their brand new beds. I could tell how excited they were when we showed them,” junior Luke Enderle, who worked with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, said.
Most students ended up making connections with the people they worked with, due to visiting their agency so often.
“I love connecting with the kids and becoming a friend to them. They know my name and love to give me hugs when they see me,” junior Olivia Grammel, who volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club, said.
Many students plan on continuing their service, even though they have completed their hours.
“I plan to continue with my agency because hopefully sometime this year I can meet the residents in person and truly make a relationship with them,” junior Lindsey McKenna, who worked with Westover Retirement Community, said.
Overall, service hours are a very rewarding experience, and Juniors look forward to completing their Senior service project in the coming months.
