On Saturday night in the PFAC, grades nine through twelve all gathered in teams of three for a Homecoming night event.
Due to COVID-19, the normal Homecoming activities were not able to take place. Instead Student Council and the faculty planned a trivia and Singo night hosted by Last Call Trivia.
Students were able to theme their teams and show up in costume. Along with that, food was provided from different food trucks like Chicken Mac, All8Up and Chloe’s Creations. Prizes were also given out for the winners of trivia and the costume contest.
With this being a new event, there were mixed reactions from students.
“I liked the trivia part but I thought the Singo was boring. I wanted to go home. But I did win the costume contest and that was kind of hype,” senior Kayla Fletcher said.
While trivia may have been successful, Singo did not seem to have many fans. For Singo, teams were given a bingo sheet with different songs. A song would be played and at the end it would be announced to see if you could mark it off on your sheet.
“Singo was kind of pointless and I wish trivia was harder,” trivia fan Andrew Larkin said.
Since this was a new Badin event, many things had to be done to make sure students actually wanted to come.
“The prizes made me want to come to trivia night,” Fletcher said.
Many seniors have already had the chance to attend a Badin Homecoming dance and participate in all the weekend has to offer. But for sophomores, this was the first year they would have been able to go to the dance.
Even though this was nothing like normal, some sophomores like Madeline DeLong still wanted to make the best of the situation.
“I wanted to go to Trivia Night because this would be my first year going to Homecoming and it was upsetting missing out on that. So I decided to go to the replacement for Homecoming this year so I could still have fun with my friends,” DeLong said.
While some decided to take advantage of the situation, others did not.
“I felt like since it wasn't a regular Homecoming it wouldn't be as fun,” senior Colby Stolph said.
For others, it simply wasn’t how they wanted to spend their Saturday night.
“I had plans to hangout with my friends already. I am glad I didn’t go because I had a fun time that night but I would’ve liked to go if I didn’t have plans already,” senior Jessica Stidham said.
Overall, many people seemed to have a good time at this Homecoming alternative. Whether it was winning the costume contest dressed as the Keating family for Fletcher, or just a fun trivia night with friends for Larkin, everyone just wanted to make the best of this Homecoming amidst a pandemic.
