Members of the Badin community were called to show their support this Wednesday during Spirit Week on Give Green Day.
This special day first began last year and is set to become an annual event. Give Green Day is a day for everyone in the Ramily to support Badin by wearing green and contributing to the school.
“The Big Green Give brings in much needed money for our Annual Fund. We felt that having a community wide one day push was the way to go. We take donations all year long, but this was a fun way to get the Badin community involved. We ask alumni, parents, past parents, community supporters, students, faculty and staff to deck themselves out in green all day long, as well as share their photos with us so we can flood social media with green. They also show their support with a donation,” Angie Gray said.
The Big Green Go was a special addition to this year’s Give Green Day to provide an alternative option for people to help out.
“This year we added the Big Green Go, a Virtual 5K. Why? Well, Mrs. Helms has lots of ideas floating around in her head and I try to help her make them a reality! She has started walking virtual 5K's (which I never knew even existed) and thought we should try to have one. We feel it was a great success. We had varied levels so that kids would get involved, sent them fun swag and grossed over $10,000 in the Big Green Go! We hope to have an actual 5K, but the virtual allows people to get moving while at home in the cold weather. We had people from all over the USA participate. It turned out to be a lot of fun,” Gray said.
Give Green Day is a day to bring the Badin community together, no matter how far apart it has spread. Through social media, we are able to see just how strong the Ramily is.
Gray said, “Some participated in the Big Green Go and sent photos while they were walking/running/rolling. During Give Green Day, others posted pictures on social media or sent them to us with signs that said they support Badin. Others posted on their Facebook/Instagram/Twitter feeds photos of their days in high school and their son/daughter's high school experience. Many people made donations to the Big Green Give! It was a great day to be a Ram!”
