As the 2020 Canned Food Drive kicks off this year, it comes with its own COVID-19 restrictions just as many other events around the school.
In the past, classes have gone out in groups to different neighborhoods to see which class could collect the most cans for Spirit Olympic points.
Student Council is in charge of this event and has had to come up with a pandemic-friendly alternative.
“We’re still trying to make a difference in our community despite having to rethink our previously successful plans,” Student Council coordinator Mrs. Keating said.
Keating has played a big role in making sure that the Canned Food Drive is still able to happen.
“This year, classes are not going into neighborhoods due to the pandemic. We have had to readjust how to collect more items to donate to our community in need. Therefore, we are having the Badin community drop off their donations at three different locations,” Keating said.
This drive-thru can collection will take place on Sunday, Nov. 15 at the following locations: Badin, Queen of Peace and Sacred Heart. You can drop off cans at 1-4 p.m. at Badin and Queen of Peace and 1:30-4 p.m. at Sacred Heart.
Even though classes are not competing for the most items this year, it is still important to donate for the families in need, especially as the holiday season is approaching.
Donations will be going to the Community Meal Center and Shared Harvest Food Bank. Both agencies are dedicated to feeding those in our community.
Students are also asked to bring in ten cans for Spirit Olympic eligibility due to previous eligibility opportunities being cancelled because of the coronavirus.
However, these cans are separate from potential extra credit cans from teachers. Freshman are to give their cans to Mrs. Manfreda, room 109, sophomores to Mrs. Oliver in room 018, juniors to Ms. Trotter in room 020 and seniors to Mrs. Keating in 008.
Please donate if you can!
