The U.S. Court of Appeals rejected an off-shore drilling project to protect the climate in the Arctic. This is an exciting victory for the climate and all the animals in the area.
The Liberty Oil Project was approved in 2018, but they stopped the project Dec. 9, 2020. This is an important step to save our endangered species. Elizabeth Colonel, a sophomore, had some thoughts.
“The climate is already bad down there. Animals such as polar bears and penguins would be very hurt by it. So because of that, I agree with the rejection of the Liberty Oil Project,” Colonel said.
Colonel expressed her strong opinions on the topic, and advocated for the animals' well beings.
“I believe climate change and global warming are two very big issues in our word today. These endangered species are being hurt by the changing of their climate, and if we add more machinery it will only get worse for the animals and the Arctic,” Colonel said.
Colonel agrees with the rejection of the oil project. Climate change is an important issue in our world today.
“I would approve to reject the oil project. I don’t want to add more problems with global warming or climate change to our world. I just think you could find oil in other places that don’t have endangered species,” Colonel said.
But, you can’t forget the polar bears!
“Polar Bears are fuzzy and cute and drink coke like the commercial,” Colonel said.
