Earth Day is one of the most important days of the year. April 22nd is the day where we celebrate the beautiful planet that we live on. Every year there is a specific theme that is the primary focus of the day. The 2021 theme is Restore Our Earth.
Earth Day first started in the 1970’s with Richard Nixon passing many laws that would help keep our environment safe from toxic wastes and pollution. Two men named John McConnell and Gaylord Nelson were the ones to officially lead the world into a healthier era by making people aware of things such as pollution.
Earth Day was created to help make known all of the dangers that our environment is facing on a daily basis. However, it has now become a day where groups of people can come together and help clean up the communities we live in today.
Because of social distancing, having community gatherings is not an option. However, there are still ways to celebrate Earth Day without big crowds of people.
One way to help our community is to go on walks and pick up trash, mainly plastic. Humans have somewhat of an addiction to plastic and picking it up can have a great effect on the planet.
Planting trees is also an easy way to take our planet into the right direction. Trees do amazing things like help with oxygen, give shade to us, and even help stop the spread of some diseases.
Finally, an easy way to save our planet is to conserve water. We use a ton of water throughout our daily lives. Taking shorter showers and turning the faucet off when it is not in use will help save our water.
Happy Earth Day everyone!
