With the fall season, sports like football are at their prime and people tend to overlook the performing arts.
Just like football, in theater, there are plays, practices, costumes and uniforms. What most people don’t realize is that theater can be just as hard as football.
“It’s definitely a challenge, just because you have to memorize lines, memorize your blocking, you have to make sure you're doing all your timing right and sometimes you even have to research for the roles just to understand your character,” senior Hannah Riecke said.
With only a couple months to rehearse before each show and all of the memorizing, shows must be tough to put on.
“I remember doing one show where we had to get somebody off stage, switch their costume, and then get them back on stage, so the changes can be very limited in time before your audience is wondering where the person is,” Riecke said.
After all of the memorization and hustling scene changes, there is one more huge factor about the hardships of shows.
“It’s pretty much making a fool of yourself in front of hundreds of people, which is hard because of my terrible public speaking ability,” sophomore Eva Groh said.
The love of theater clearly isn’t majorly found from the hours of work, but found from the love of the art.
“I like being able to escape from reality and taking on this new persona because it’s fun to play around with basically being a different person,” Riecke said.
