The Cicadas are coming back to Cincinnati for the summer 2021 season. These gross insects pop up every 17 years from underground ready to swarm all over. Another name for these animals is Brood X.
These insects make a loud clicking noise that can reach up to 90 decibels. The cicada are only planned to hit the Midwest, including Ohio and Indiana. Luckily these insects are not dangerous to people or animals.
“I think that cicadas are disgusting, and do nothing to help the environment,” Elizabeth Colonel said.
The estimated numbers for the bug population is trillions, meaning it will be a swarm!
“I’m not ready for them to come. They are bugs, and I can’t stand bugs. I wish they wouldn’t come back anymore,” Ruby Rosenblum said.
The cicadas are only supposed to be here for about 5 to 6 weeks above ground. These species discard their exoskeletons meaning there will be a lot of crunchy stuff on the ground. Ew!
“My sister and I were talking about the cicadas coming back, and my parents said you have no idea how bad they can get. So I am not excited about it,” Kendyl Roberts said.
Overall I don’t think many people are excited about seeing these bugs, but the plus side is it’s only every 17 years!
“I saw like a million cicada holes in my backyard the other day. They were alive and growling everywhere. It was so disgusting! So now I’m scared for summer because we practice outside for soccer,” Alyssa Jackson said.
