With the binge watching during quarantine hitting a slump, all of the streaming channels have listened to our cry for more. The new and highly anticipated shows from Disney and the corporations connected to the company, Star Wars & Marvel, came through, and many have been waiting to see how Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be influenced by the new shows.
The original start for the streaming platform from Marvel was supposed to be Falcon & Winter Soldier premiering this past August. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the show isn’t able to move forward, instead the new nine episode show took the lead. The new WandaVision trailer was then premiered during the Emmy Awards Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020.
The show will air this December according to a recent post from Alex Lue from Inside The Magic. Many are curious to know how it will play into the future of the MCU, and how it will correlate with the eventual second installment of the Doctor Strange film known as Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
All of these theories are being discussed by avid fans and news sites. Using the ideas they have come up with, we will be able to gain a general understanding of how the future may be shown in the MCU.
While not much is known about the show, the theories based upon the many comics are circling around. One of the plotlines for the character Scarlet Witch is very similar to the premise of the show. After the death of Vision, the grief takes hold of her and she ends up creating an alternate reality for herself with the robot lover in it.
This doesn’t seem to be the case in the show from the brief eighty second trailer, Cinemablend’s Eric Eisenberg mentions in his article,
“If Scarlet Witch were actually controlling the reality shifts, she wouldn’t seem so entranced by the magic… that suggests that there could be some larger powers at play pulling the strings in WandaVision.”
Which plays into the role of a new unnamed character played by actress Kathryn Hahn. Her character is known as “Nosy Neighbor” but one of the things that seems to show that she’s not just that is her acknowledgement that Vision is dead before cackling in front of the green and red robot. This neighbor is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Though the future of the MCU does come into play as Monica Rammbeau, played by Teyonah Parris, reappears much older than the young girl portrayed by Akira Akbar in Captain Marvel. One of the many questions yet to be answered is the powers she holds, similar to Brie Lawsons’ Carol Danvers. Though not much is known about her character in the series, it’s exciting to see what Parris will do with the role and how the character will fit in with the new Phase 4 timeline.
Even with the time travel elements put into play from the recent Avengers installment, Avengers: Endgame, the show does take place after the death of Vision as Kathryn Hahns’ character declares. Telling us all that the show is after Avengers: Infinity War and we have been confirmed about Wanda’s appearance in the future Doctor Strange installment.
But how will this show play into that, is this a reality of Wanda’s choosing or the “Nosy Neighbors”? Or maybe this is a branch into another universe entirely. Why mention the multiverse in the sequel if it won’t play a part in the film?
As there still is much more to learn about the show and little to go off of at the moment, fans will have to wait and see what’s to come. Marvel can be secretive if they want to be, this is one of those that seems like they will be keeping secret until another trailer gets dropped potentially or until the show releases on Disney+.
