The new “Star Wars” phenomenon that swept the world as one of the first shows on the new streaming network Disney+ last year. The show destroyed any apprehension to the franchise’s new route to continue the decades long series as the eight-episode show won over the world.
Definitely not because of the renewed cute alien species that wormed its way into the hearts of viewers and became a massive meme.
Premiering in just nine days on Oct. 30, many fans are desperately waiting for the show to appear on the streaming platform. Worried that the show would’ve been pushed back due to the pandemic but fans were delightfully informed otherwise by Disney CEO, Bob Chapek, and one of the many directors on the show, Jon Faveau, told avid fans the release date back in June. All they had to do was wait for a trailer to drop until then.
But that didn’t mean that confirmation of new characters entering the series weren’t announced alongside the wait. Characters from both live-action and animated branches of “Star Wars” will make their own appearances. Boba Fett, another Mandalorian that was last shown facing his demise in “Return Of The Jedi,” will play a role in the show. What exactly that role will be is still to be determined.
Other roles that leave much to be desired are Cobb Vanth and this unnamed bounty hunter respectively played by Timothy Olyphant and Micheal Biehn. There is little known about how the characters the actors will be portraying fit into the series but many are excited by the arrival of Vanth. A former slave who finds the armor of Boba Fett after “Return Of The Jedi.” But, the show takes place before Luke & Leia Skywalker form a bond with Han Solo, the roles leave behind many questions that are hoped to be answered.
Animated wise, we get to see Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan Kryze live played by Rosario Dawson and voice actor for the animated character Katee Sackhoff. Both characters appeared in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars'' and are sparking speculation about how they’ll exactly weave into the storyline.
Bo-Katan is a former Mandalorian herself, leader of her guild, and Death Watch lieutenant with a major role in the nine episodes she appeared in. Ahsoka Tano was the former padawan of Anakin Skywalker and voice of the past Jedi whispering to Rey during “The Rise of Skywalker.” To see her in live-action will be a welcomed experience and how she plays into the story with her connection to the Sith-Lord Darth Vader is awaited.
With these new characters from the animated series, does that mean more will be appearing too?
Not only are the characters sparking conversation, but reimplementing the darksaber created an uproar of theories itself. Shown previously in the animated TV show “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels” the darksaber is a lightsaber with a black kyber crystal (the gems that make the sabers have color and different meanings). Moff Gideon played by Giancarlo Esposito claims when speaking of the weapon,
“You’ll see more of the darksaber, you’ll get the explanation of this ancient weapon to a modern world, a collapsed world. Where did this saber come from and how was it revived? It’s a key in our second season which will be back sooner or later.” Esposito said (to Deadline, quoted in CinemaBlend’s article by Phillip Sledge).
Quite the description with its own predictions around its role in the plotline as Esposito says. Especially with the connection it shares to Bo-Katan Kryze.
Though with all of these unknowns, fans can’t wait to watch the series continue with the Mandalorian, Din Djarin, and The Child baby Yoda as they travel to find the green creatures’ home planet. Dodging the Empire who is searching for them along the way.
