Christmas, a time of cheer and love. Families coming together to share gifts as best as they can with COVID-19. Students doing secret santa in their homerooms. Snow may or may not fall on the ground because it’s Ohio, but the world is full of Christmas magic everywhere.
Except for Christmas songs, one of the better parts to the holidays, aren’t what they used to be to many Badin students. You can only listen to a song so many times before it gets boring.
With an overwhelming majority, “All I Want For Christmas” by Mariah Carey is the most hated Christmas song at Badin. Students say it’s annoying and repetitive, that there’s better songs out there to listen too.
“It’s overplayed, an extremely repetitive song, and had terrible instrumentals.” sophomore Jimmy Zettler says.
Coming in second place is “The Little Drummer Boy” by Katherine Kennicott Davis, who is claimed to have created the song. The song is overplayed and annoying, similar to Carey’s "All I Want For Christmas".
“It's overplayed. Also, it's annoying with the beat. The song has barely any words other than "Pum pum pum pum" senior Kim Salerno says.
Junior Adrianna Garcia isn’t a fan of the song either, claiming enthusiastically that “There’s no flavor! No spice! It’s blander than cold oatmeal!”
“Christmas Time is Here” was mentioned as well, freshman Patrick Farrell says, “It sounds like depressed broken dog whistles are singing it along with a sad melody.” talk about hating a song!
Another Christmas hated classic is “I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”.
“Doesn’t make sense and is kinda dumb to listen too” said freshman Madison Zorb.
If high pitched songs are hated, then “Alvin and The Chipmunks: Merry Christmas” is among them, senior Will Brossart put his opinion into the mix.
“Too high pitch voices and it doesn't need the added dialogue. “ Brossart said.
Unlike most Christmas classic songs, pop artists have also made the list of hated christmas carols. “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber was part of the list.
“I hate Justin Bieber beyond hate limits. He is the absolute worst. He makes me feel like I could light the world on fire, that song pulls at my soul and makes me wanna hurt someone.” said senior Joey Stidham.
That is more like an attack on Bieber instead of the song but if you hate it, you hate it!
There were other hated songs such as “Santa Baby”, “Baby it’s Cold Outside”, “Jingle Bells”, and “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”. Along with “Grandma got run over by a reindeer”, and “The Charlie Brown Song” are all hated Christmas classics amongst Badin students.
Now that we all got the chance to vent out our Christmas song woes, now we can enter a time for love and joy together.
