Catholic Schools Week is a way to celebrate catholic schools all over the world by giving the kids days out of uniform. The themes for these days are normally fun and a way to take a break from the uniform and wear sweatpants.
However this year Badin students weren’t fans of the themes for this week. Many expected more out of the themed days or couldn’t participate in some since they came from public schools. So, let’s find out why exactly these themes weren’t interesting to the Badin students.
With an overwhelming majority, many students disliked catholic middle school day. They claimed that it was hard to achieve with the circumstances and some even DIY-ed their own “parish” shirts.
Freshman Maya Craft said “Wednesday's "Catholic School/Parish Day" may have been a bit awkward. I'm a freshman and I know lots of kids who came from public schools or were even homeschooled. They had to get a shirt from a friend which I'm sure feels sort of weird.”
And senior Frank Munafo agreed with the theme being a bust “Parish day,” he said, “They should call it wear something 3 sizes too short day.”
Which is a downside to the themed day. Although, the point is to celebrate catholic schools, this one didn’t seem to hit the mark.
The next theme students disliked was catholic college day. Many kids didn’t like the university option especially when not all of the kids will or are planning on going to a catholic college.
Junior Gracie Combs said, “There are not that many to go to and buying their gear is so expensive.”
Another downside to the day, spending money on a shirt you’ll only wear four times if you can even find any of their clothing for a decent price.
Overall, the themes weren’t a big hit for this year's Catholic Schools Week. Some recommendations from students to add or change the days in the future are:
“Rainbow theme to symbolize peace and hope that God had given Noah to never flood the Earth again.” junior Jillian Palomino said.
“Chicken!” senior Luke McLaughlin said rather enthusiastically as a theme choice, though maybe a bit confused about the question.
“Camo.” junior Emma Giuliano and sophomore Annabelle Payne said.
“Blackout.” Junior Ryan Joesting and Freshman Vaughn Smith suggested.
Though the themes were hit or miss with some of the students, many are looking forward to the interesting and much anticipated Spirit Week and its out of uniform days.
