Birthdays are usually fun-filled days celebrating that you are getting older. However, because of the “beloved” COVID-19, birthdays were either canceled or families had to get creative. Many of the students had their birthdays celebrated either at home with friends or had dinner at a restaurant.
“My birthday is in July, so the protocols were becoming less restrictive. My immediate family went out to eat at Logan's Steakhouse. Then, we had a party where everyone in my family was invited,” said sophomore Sydney Boomer.
“Home activities, a present scavenger hunt, and family things at home. Had a home cooked meal, and got to do what I wanted all day,” said sophomore Hailey Lipp.
“I had a few friends over,” said junior Ryan Joesting.
“My friends surprised me at my house with posters and gifts. We took pictures and talked for a while,” said freshman Annie Nguyen.
The most popular way to celebrate was staying home and eating cake or watching a movie with family. Others zoomed with their extended family or held a smaller party than normal. Birthdays this year were also celebrated a different way with a drive by or birthday parade.
Cars would be decorated, while driving past the birthday girl or boy’s home. Some of the people participating in the drive by would drop off their gifts or posters during this time as well. This fun celebration was done for or planned by a lot of students at Badin for a replacement of a normal party.
Everyone can agree they can’t wait to have back the normal celebration of a large party with friends and family. However, everyone whose birthday was celebrated this crazy year will never forget it.
