AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOROUGH OF BADEN, COUNTY OF
BEAVER AND COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA AMENDING
THE BADEN BOROUGH CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 15, ENTITLED “FIRE DEPARTMENT.”
WHEREAS, the Baden Borough Council has heretofore enacted into law the Baden Borough Code of Ordinances; and,
WHEREAS, the Council of the Borough of Baden desires to amend said Code; therefore, the Borough of Baden Code of Ordinances, Chapter 15, is hereby amended so as to add the following:
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ORDAINED and ENACTED as follows:
§1-1 Fire Department Knox Box.
Any new construction on a commercial building or multi-residential building shall be required to install a Knox Box and provide required keys for fire department access during an emergency incident at that location.
Any commercial building or Multi-residential building under renovations requiring a permit shall be required to install a Knox Box and provide required keys for fire department access during an emergency incident at that location.
Any commercial building, Multi-residential building with four (4) or more units and/or an automatic fire alarm, or any other building with an automatic fire alarm system shall be required to install a Knox Box per building and provide required keys for fire department access during an emergency incident at that location.
Keys required to be provided to the Fire Department:
One (1) key for fire alarm panel;
One (1) master key per floor if available;
One (1) key per lockable room if no master keys are available.
Lockable rooms to include storage areas, utility rooms, offices, each apartment if an apartment building, any other room with a lockable door, and mechanical rooms.
The property owner shall clearly label the keys according to their purpose (e.g., a key for an elevator labeled “elevator”; if a property with multiple structures, keys appropriately labeled for each structure; a key for a fire alarm panel labeled “fire alarm panel”). The Fire Chief or designated representative will verify all keys work and will color code the keys according to fire department guidelines.
If, for any reason, any locks are replaced and keyed differently, replacement keys shall be provided to the Fire Department within five (5) days.
