A CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:
Hello internet friends. I am on the artistic committee and the play reading committee for a community theater. Located in Anamosa Iowa, Starlighters II Community Theater has been in operation for 49 years! I also am the owner of B2 Studios, and have several projects relating to script writing, editing, and production that I am working on with collaborators outside of Starlighters II. Our website is under construction. Our launch page is a bit of an internal joke, so please bear with us. 😀
I am reaching out to ask playwrights and scriptwriters interested in having their work read, evaluated, and possibly produced, to submit a script for us to read.
As a playwright and actor myself, along with my colleagues at B2 Studios, I understand how difficult it can be both for theaters (to get new material) and for playwrights to get honest feedback and possible production of the work. In collaboration with Starlighters II Community Theater, B2 Studios has put out this call for submissions.
Ultimately, whether it be for Starlighters II, or for one of B2 Studios’ side projects, we would be interested in reading the work, discussing it, and providing feedback to you as an author/scriptwriter.
We would ask that people only submit scripts where they do have the rights to the work and be able to authorize permission (or give us instructions on who to contact for permission) if the work is selected for production.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Please submit your work via email if possible. The script needs to be in WORD/PDF Format (or if you have a printed script you'd like to share we can discuss how you mail it to us).
Email Us Your Submission
submissions@starlighters.org | playsubmissions@b2studios.biz
The Starlighters script reading committee would, from the selections available, choose a piece and discuss the work. If it is something that the committee thinks would fit well with our community, our theater, and our mission we may reach out to you as the author to discuss next steps.
Our team here at B2 Studios is also seeking entries for possible production in 2024/2025. We are looking primarily for scripts that have not been previously produced but am open to reading/ receiving any submission.
Submitting your script is completely up to you, and 100% voluntary. If you have a question about compensation, please see the FAQ below.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: (FAQ) Q&A Updated 02.01.23
Q: What Kind of Plays / Scripts are you seeking?
A: Anything! Comedy, tragedy, drama, 1 act, full length, musical, yes!
Q: Are you looking for scripts that would work for kids/young thespians?
A: Absolutely!
Q: How do I contact you directly?
A1: To contact me directly on Reddit: DM u/nytngale and we can chat.
A2: Email me directly at playsubmissions@b2studios.biz
A3: If you’re wanting to directly contact the theater for any theater related questions you may use the email submissions@starlighters.org.
Q: Do you have preferences on length, genre, etc.?
A: Nope. You can send it over!
Q: Is there a limit to the number of submissions?
A: No. You can send as many as you like (within reason).
Q: Is this a paid opportunity?
A: Great question! It depends on what you are looking for...
If you're looking for review, and honest feedback OR
If you're looking to get your work in front of a group of people for possible production...
If what you're looking for is a review and honest feedback then please feel free to send over your work and we will respond. While we cannot (at this time) provide financial compensation; we can (and will) provide writers with valuable feedback at no cost to you. We will read your submission, discuss it, make recommendations on corrections to grammar/spelling, and our impressions, suggestions, observations, and reflections, which you may use however you like. You give us the gift of reading your work; we will give you the gift of candid feedback.
If what you're looking for is the possibility to have your work produced, then the first step is to submit your work to us/our committee to read. If it's something that our scriptwriting committee and artistic committee likes enough to produce, then we have a process in place to switch to a more business-centered conversation.
I hope I've answered your questions and assuaged any worries. If anyone has any other questions or wants to chat deeper, please PM me or email me.
Thanks so much!
