Awareness- What's going on around you and understanding what is happening. If you see something wrong or is off, if your Spidey sense is tingling, or if your gut is telling you to go, then leave.
Avoidance- Once you can spot what's going on or about to happen, you can better avoid it. Leave.
De-Escalation- If something does happen, and you can't avoid it, then you try to de-escalate the situation. Talk them down or talk your way out. Then leave.
Escape- Everything we teach leads to this. Remove yourself, if you can, from the situation. This is your objective.
Physical Techniques- This is the lowest rung on the ladder. This is your last resort. We teach this for the purpose of affecting an escape. If you can't find a way out, create one. What we teach is not nice. It is comprised of a lot of what would be considered dirty tactics. It is not very sporting. That's why this is an adult oriented program.
Our self-defense program is suitable for 14 years of age and above. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis after meeting in person. Self-Defense is not fighting. Fighting is a mutual agreement, between all parties involved, to engage in physical "combat" (usually driven by ego or gain}. Self-Defense is when one party (predator) wants to cause damage physically, mentally, and/or emotionally to another party (target) and the target does not agree to it. At that point, it becomes self-defense. The target should then escape by whatever means are required for the situation. This means that once you have a way out, in a safe manner, you take it.
We offer private instruction, which is normally recommended, at an affordable rate. We also offer classes at set times throughout the week. Before attending the weekly classes, it is recommended that you have 4-6 hours of private instruction first. This allows us to instill certain parts of training that are easier to learn one-on-one and set you up with the most basic techniques that we will be teaching. Once you start weekly classes, if this is what you decide to do, we will have several concepts that we will keep going back to and additional techniques to learn and train. This is where you flesh out what works for you.
Continued training is your key to customization and proficiency, but we will always go back to our basic core techniques! Simple gross motor skill movements have been proven to work best under stress. There's nothing flashy, it doesn't look good on video, but it works. That's all that matters when it comes to your safety and making it home.
You can train for knowledge or you can train for rank certification. I would recommend training for at least a minimum of six months. Short term training will expose you to a lot of good things, but it creates a false sense of security. Becoming physically proficient takes time, time that you will not have from only a weekend seminar, a few weeks, or a couple of months of class. Ultimately, this is your choice to make. I am only here to guide and help you learn to be safer.
