important context for the rise of hitler and the holocaust
the role of propaganda
One of the factors that helped Hitler and the Nazis rise to power was propaganda. The Nazis used propaganda throughout the late 1920’s and early 1930’s to boost Hitler’s image, and, as a result of this and other aspects, he became extremely popular.
As we learn about the propaganda manufactured by Hitler and Nazi Germany against the Jews, there's no doubt as to the "single story" the Third Reich wished to tell. The message they repeated over and over again, in all forms of media, was that the Jews were not human and must be exterminated if Germany was to survive. It is one of the most powerful, state-sanctioned "single stories" ever told.
It is hard to believe but important to learn and understand how the Nazi government engineered a technologically efficient system to commit mass murder and that countless people set aside their humanity long enough to believe the "single story" and carry out the extermination of millions of Jews.
