The Arizona Society for Music Educators is a constituency organization of the Arizona Music Educators Association (AMEA). Together, we work with AMEA to uphold state and national standards for general music classrooms. To us, general music classrooms are everyone and range from classes like: guitar, elementary choir, steel drum ensemble and even mariachi. We strive to offer current and educational opportunities for general music educators all over Arizona. We strive to create a safe space for all music educators and expose our students to all kinds of music. AZGM is all of us!
In addition to Kodaly, Orff, Feierabend, and Dalcroze trainings, using MusicPlay.com, and Quaver Music, many of us also like to include new and old songs into our curriculum.
Here are some favorite YouTube videos that we have used in our general music classrooms! If you have favorites you would like to share, please e-mail azsgmpresident@azmea.org
Pass the Pumpkin! A favorite of all ages! There are a ton of versions of this game, the really fun ones include playing an instrument when you are "out". Found on TeachersPayTeachers and on YouTube. After Halloween, you can change the words and item being passed around (apple, snowflake, heart, shamrock, etc.)

This is one of my favorite Finger Plays to perform with 2nd graders during the fall. I hope you enjoy it too!

Anything by Stephanie Leavell is wonderful for Pre_K-1st graders! She has an amazingly calm voice, great steady beat activities, and my students love singing her KIND song with a positive message!
Want an engaging activity that practices active listening, identifying rhythm, and helps students to spell?! Check out "Mystery Word" Activities on YouTube that even act as a great sub plan!
