Dear FJH Parents/Guardians,
Friday we had our "Bigger, Better, Funner" Forte Fun Day and we truly had a blast! The kids got to enjoy games, sports, a petting zoo, an obstacle course, and more! We now are officially on the "home stretch" of the year and the last round of exams - please make sure you read over the information regarding semester exams (posted below) and that your students are rested and ready to close out the 2025-2026 school year!
Thank you for sharing your students with us each day,
Dr. Stevi Norris
7th Social Studies:
What significant events impacted Texans during the mid-20th century? (What happened?)
What motivated Texans to join in the war effort? (What were they thinking?)
What economic changes were happening that contributed to the Great Depression? (Why then and there?)
What can we learn about resilience from studying the lives of Texans during the mid-twentieth century? (What do we think about that?)
7th Science:
Ask your students the following:
Describe how humans both depend on and affect the groundwater and surface water in watersheds.
What is the difference between organisms that are producers and consumers in an ecosystem?
Also, ask your students how they study or how they should study for our science CUA exams. (If they struggle to answer this or have no study plan, suggest the following: complete and review the unit driving question. final summary forms in their binder, study notes in their binder, review presentations in the note section of each unit in Canvas)
7th Math:
While working with your student at home, you may find the following vocabulary terms helpful in your communication about interpreting data. These are terms your student will be encouraged to use throughout our explorations and during our math chats, which are short, whole-group discussions at the conclusion of each activity.
Bar graph: a graph that uses horizontal or vertical rectangular bars to show each category of qualitative data
Circle graph (pie chart): a visual representation of data, made by dividing a circle into sectors that each represent part of a whole
Comparison: the process or results of looking for similarities and/or differences among sets of objects or numbers
Data: a collection of organized facts, usually in numerical form, words, measurements, or descriptions
Dot plot (line plot): a method of visually displaying a distribution of data values where each data value is shown as a dot or mark above a number line
Equivalent: equal in value or amount
Population: a discrete group for the purposes of data collection and analysis
Problem: a question to solve
Random sampling: a selection chosen by change and which has no predictability
Sample: one part of the given population
7th RLA:
What test strategies are you using in class when taking a test? Which genre is your favorite and why?
8th Social Studies:
What do you think were the biggest challenges of trying to "stitch" the country back together after it had been physically and emotionally divided by war? If you were living back then, do you think you would have preferred the South to stay mostly rural and agricultural or to build big industrial cities? Why?
8th Science:
In what ways does a variation of traits within a population of plants enhance the survival of the species? How is this the same or different with animals?
8th Math:
What 4 types of transformations are there, and what does the rule look like?
8th RLA:
Ask your students to share the stories with you in class that discuss the fight for freedom. This quarter’s essential question is “What will people risk to be free?”

We are heading into the final stretch of the school year! Semester exams are just around the corner, and we want to ensure every student is set up for success.
Because these exams count for 15% of the overall grade average, your support in encouraging dedicated study time at home is incredibly valuable.
Standard Exam Dates:
Monday, May 18: Reading, Social Studies, & Electives
Tuesday, May 19: Math, Science, & Electives
Need to Make Up an Exam?
If your student is absent on testing days, please note these crucial make-up windows to avoid a zero in the gradebook:
Wednesday, May 20 & Thursday, May 21: Exams can be made up during regular school hours (note that Thursday is an early release day).
Tuesday, May 26 (Final Deadline): Available from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. You must contact administration ahead of time to secure a time slot, testing will be at Azle High School due to construction at FJH.
Thank you for partnering with us to help your student succeed!
This week we collected 7th grade student's Chromebooks - if your student did not return their charger; they can still turn it in or they will be charged a $20 replacement fee! Have them see Mrs. Witherspoon if they have any questions.
Congratulations to the Forte Wind Ensemble for their first division rating at the Peak Music Festival on Friday, May 1st. The clarinets, flutes, and alto saxophones were also recognized as outstanding sections.
Band registration is the evening of May 19th. This is a come and go event where incoming 7th and 8th grade band students will fill out important paperwork for the upcoming school year, receiving fee information, and check out their school-owned instrument.
At Forte Junior High, we are committed to partnering with you to ensure every student successfully completes their coursework. As we move through the school year, please be aware that students must pass all four core academic subjects—Math, Science, History, and English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR)—to be promoted to the next grade level. We want to stress that summer school requirements will only apply to students who are failing a core class for the year based on their final year-to-date average of Cycles 1, 2, and 3. For those who do not meet the passing requirements, in-person summer school will be held Monday through Thursday (8:30–12:30) during the first three weeks of June at a cost of $75 per course. Please note that transportation for summer sessions is not provided.
Students who are currently in danger of failing will meet with a campus administrator very soon to discuss their progress, and an official email containing specific details will be sent home to those families. In the meantime, we encourage you to monitor grades regularly through Skyward, ensure all assignments are prioritized and turned in on time, and have your student attend scheduled tutoring sessions with their teachers. If you have any immediate questions, please contact your student's teacher or grade-level administrator.
If your student won't be returning to FJH, we'll miss them; however, to help us plan, please contact Mrs. Breito, our registrar, at Crystal.Breito@azleisd.net so she can get you the withdrawal paperwork. This helps us with planning, and it will help you with a smoother enrollment at your next school!
We are so incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our students are putting into their Accelerated Instruction hours (HB 1416)! It has been wonderful to see their growth, and we want to do everything we can to help them cross that finish line with total confidence.
To keep you in the loop on their progress, we sent home personalized updated 1416 letters this week. These letters are designed to show you exactly how close your student is to reaching their goal and how many hours they have left to shine.
We would love your partnership in helping them prioritize these final steps so they can stay ahead of the curve and finish strong. Please take a moment to peek in your mail or your student’s backpack to find their update. We are cheering them on every step of the way—let's get those final hours checked off the list together!
Attention parents of students with Attendance Recovery hours:
let’s get those credits back on track! We have plenty of opportunities for your student to make up time every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, plus our extended sessions (4:00 PM – 7:00 PM) on the following dates:
January 23
February 5
February 20
March 6
Please note: Hours from the first semester have rolled over, and credits are currently on hold until these hours are cleared. Because we want to see those holds lifted, it is vital that students complete their time as soon as possible. Please remember that bus service is not provided, so students will need pre-arranged transportation for pick-up. Let’s work together to cross this off the list and secure those credits!
We know that life happens and sometimes your student needs to miss a day of school. To help us ensure every absence is recorded correctly, please remember to submit an excuse—whether it’s a doctor’s note or a signed note from you—whenever your child is away. Just a reminder, all unexcused absences count toward truancy.
You can easily submit these in two ways:
Online: Upload them directly to your student’s Skyward account under the "Attendance" tab.
In-Person: Have your student bring a physical copy to the Attendance Office.
Per our student handbook, please try to get these notes to us within three days of the absence so we can update your student's records promptly and avoid any truancy concerns. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to our Attendance Clerk, Mrs. Murray: kmurray@azleisd.net.
Thank you for your help in supporting your student’s success!
Please be aware that we DO NOT allow Uber Eats, DoorDash or similar companies to deliver to school. This includes during lunch times or for athletics pre-game meals.
This is for the safety of all our students. We cannot have fast food delivery drivers walking around the school grounds looking for students.
If any food delivery is made to school we will refuse delivery. If the company insists on leaving it, it will be confiscated. Our school will not be involved in the refund of any money lost.
The school cafe has the license to offer healthy food options for students to purchase.
If a student forgets their lunch, a parent or guardian may drop it off at the front office; however, we ask that this be done only when necessary. Frequent lunch drop-offs can cause students to lose valuable lunchtime while retrieving their food and place additional demands on our office staff to ensure it reaches the right student. We appreciate your help in limiting lunch deliveries to true “as needed” situations.
Every teacher offers tutoring twice a week on their scheduled days. Morning tutorials are 8:00 - 8:30, and after school tutorials go until 4:30. This tutoring is specific to the teacher and their subject for things like test corrections, homework, makeup assignments, etc.
Some additional tutoring opportunities have also for students who need targeted support based off their prior year STAAR scores. If your student was identified to attend, you would have received communication. Those tutoring sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 - 5:00.
We are happy to welcome lunch visitors to campus starting in September. A few guidelines/what to expect:
You can only bring food for your student.
There will be a designated parent section for you and your student to sit.
Other students are not permitted to join, unless you are listed in their emergency contact list in Skyward.
Please be aware of lunch times:
12:02 - 12:32 - 7th Grade Lunch
12:54 - 1:24 - 8th Grade Lunch
Please Note! May 15th will be a sack lunch day due to Forte Fun Day. Please disregard what is on the calendar to be served. Thank you!
