About Brittany Gosnell
Teacher Bio: I have wanted to be an educator since before I was officially an adult, and I am so grateful for the support I have been given which has led me to AXL Academy. Originally from the East coast, I lived in New Hampshire as a child until the age of 8, when my family and I moved to central Maine. I grew up in a very small, rural town in Maine, and before that, an even smaller town in New Hampshire. I love the woods, camping, hiking, and all things nature! I moved to Colorado Springs in June of 2017, just after completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in May at the University of Southern Maine. Prior to earning my Bachelor’s Degree, I earned my Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Maine Community College. Since moving to Colorado, I have gained experience teaching as a preschool teacher, a 4th grade teacher, a 3rd/4th grade Reading & Writing teacher, as well as a 1st grade teacher. This is my second year of teaching 1st grade, and my 3rd year of teaching in general. I moved to the Denver area for my teaching position at AXL, and am so excited to be gaining more experience teaching 1st graders-- as they are truly the best, in my opinion. 🙂
Why AXL: I chose AXL because their vision of engaging, empowering, and achieving aligns well with my own. As a school, it is evident that AXL values collaboration and relationships-- and these are the cornerstone to my own teaching philosophy. I firmly believe that we can achieve more when we learn how to work well with one another, and believe that children cannot reach their full potential without positive adult relationships. AXL also has a large emphasis on equity, character building traits such as craftsmanship and perseverance, as well as prioritizing the well being of the whole child-- not just their academics. Lastly, I have wanted to work at a school that focuses on Expeditionary Learning since prior to graduating from college with my Bachelors... and here I am. I am honored to be teaching at AXL Academy!! ❤️
What I Love: I love to hike and adventure outdoors as much as possible, and it is a large part of what brought me all the way to Colorado. I also love gardening, biking, reading, coffee, tea, and baking. I enjoy spending time with my feline, Sadie, and am planning on getting another cat soon! Lastly, I love teaching children how to read, and forming relationships with children and families alike.
