Please make sure that if you have concerns about a given student, the first communication to parents should come from you.
If a student is demonstrating significant challenges far beyond same-age peers in your class or you would like some assistance from the TLC Specialists for problem-solving a specific student situation, please feel free to refer the case to SST for review.
Few things to take into consideration BEFORE you refer a student to SST:
· You should be providing 6-8 weeks of intervention(s) with your students and adjust instructions as needed BEFORE referring any student to SST; I suggest referring to the "PRE-REFERRAL INTERVENTION MANUAL" book (Thaubaan and Kerry have copies), if the student is not successful with the interventions, a formal referral can be completed.
· Provide supporting documentation about the student's level/progress to the LS team for review via the SST referral form.
· You will need to complete the SST referral in collaboration with all required English, Arabic, and Math teachers and any specialists needed.
· If you have any significant concerns about a student, you will need to meet/call the parents to share your concerns and to let them know how you are trying to support their child.
· Refer to this brief SST referral guideline should you need more specifics on the process -
