Music with Mr. LaFountain

About me

Hello! My name is Marcel LaFountain and this will be my eighth year teaching at AV-W Elementary!  I attended St. Norbert College where I received my bachelor's degree in General and Choral Music Education.  During my time at St. Norbert, I was a member of the Chamber Singer's, Men's Chorus, Abbey Singers, and a Madrigal Choir.  I was also a founding member of the acapella group, Acafellas, being their Music Director for 2 years, and I also was the Vocal Director for the yearly Knight Theatre Musical in 2018, helping to put on the show The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I was also the president of the Interfraternity Council and the National Residence Hall Honorary, and a member of the National Association for Music Educators and Green Knights for Diabetes. 

I grew up in a small town called Necedah, located in South Central Wisconsin.  I attended Necedah Elementary, Middle, and High School, participating in Band and Choir in every year that I could and attending Solo and Ensemble every year as well, making it to State in my Senior Year.  I've also been doing musicals since middle school, being in shows like Oklahoma!, Annie, The Music Man, and Once Upon a Mattress.  My Sophomore and Senior year I was also invited to go on tour in Europe twice with the Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music.  

I decided to become a teacher because I wanted to help people.  My main goal as a teacher is to create lifelong learners, teach people how to be kind and compassionate, and instill in them a love for music.  I do not expect every student who comes into my class to be a performer one day, or continue to be in ensembles for the rest of their lives.  What I do expect is for students to learn to work collaboratively, overcome fears, be comfortable being uncomfortable, problem solve, and for students to be able to talk about music for the rest of their lives.
