When is summer school?

Our AV-W Summer School Program runs for two full weeks after the last day of the regular school year. For more specific dates, please check the Summer School Homepage.

2. How many classes can I sign my child up for?

There are a total of four sessions for which you can register your child. The sessions are broken down into two sessions per week. You can sign your child up for as many or as few sessions as you like!

3. How long are the classes/sessions?

The first session is during the first week from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the second session is also during the first week from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, the third session is during the second week from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and the fourth session is also during the second week from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

4. Can I sign my child up for a class not listed under their grade level?

Our teachers put a lot of care and thought into their classes and they choose grade levels that would be successful in each class. We do discourage you from signing up for a class not designed for your student's grade level as it may be too boring or too difficult for them to participate. The sign up form will limit you to the classes that are appropriate for your child's grade level. If you would like to ask the teacher of a certain class if they would make an exception for your child, please reach out to them directly and include summerschool@avwschool.org in the email as well. We will do our best to accommodate but please know that we cannot guarantee registration for a class outside of your child's grade level.

5. How do I know which teachers are teaching what classes?

6. When do I have to register by?

The due date for Summer School is always 4 Fridays prior to the beginning of Summer School at 3:15pm. Please see the Home Page of the Summer School Website for that specific date. This due date is important to keep in mind because we need time to sort all the rosters and teachers need time to prepare for the appropriate amount of students as well as enough time to buy any supplies before Summer School starts. PLEASE let us know of any changes/requests PRIOR to the registration deadline for the aforementioned purposes.

7. Does my child have to be enrolled at AV-W to participate in summer school?

No, they do not! However, we will still need your contect information that is asked for within the registration form for safety reasons.

8. My plans have changed: Can I unenroll my child even if it's past the registration deadline?

Yes, we understand that plans change! We just ask that you please let us know sooner than later so that if there is a student on a waitlist for a class, it can be filled sooner. Please email summerschool@avwschool.org with any registration changes.

9. Can I change my child's classes after the registration date?

Unless it is to unenroll, we try to avoid roster changes past the registration deadline. Again, our teachers put a lot of care and thought into their classes. This due date is important to keep in mind because we need time to sort all the rosters and teachers need time to prepare for the appropriate amount of students as well as enough time to buy any supplies before Summer School starts. PLEASE let us know of any changes/requests PRIOR to the registration deadline for the aforementioned purposes. This is also why it is extremely important to understand which classes require extra things like cost and/or transportation. Please make sure you read the Course Offerings Page before registering so there are no surprises down the road.

10. What can I and my child expect on the first day of summer school?

Please see the following important information regarding the summer school and how it is run!

Free breakfast and lunch is available before each session!
The Morning Session begins at 8am and goes to 11am and the Afternoon Session begins after lunch at 11:30am and goes to 2:30pm. Please be on time for drop off and pick up.
Students will need to sign in for each session they are attending EACH DAY. Sign in sheets will be outside the front doors (or right inside depending on weather) prior to each session. If your child is signed up for a morning and afternoon session, they will have to come back outside during lunch to sign in. Classes happening offsite, will have their respective sign in sheets with them offsite as well.
Please help us with reminding students that they are to REMAIN IN THE CAFETERIA before each session and remain seated at their assigned class table. This helps prevent running around outside and inside which can lead to spills and injuries. Thank you for your support in this matter!

11. If I owe money for a class, how do I pay?

Most classes are free but if you do sign up for a class that has a fee, please bring cash or check to the main office of the school and include in the memo the first and last name of the student and what class(es) the payment is for. Please also turn in the payment on the due date stated on the homepage.

My question wasn't answered above... What do I do now?

Again, please feel free to reach out to me (summerschool@avwschool.org) with other questions or concerns regarding summer school. However, please remember that I teach 8th grade Crew, ELA, and Social Studies full-time during the school year, so if I don't get back to you right away, I promise I will contact you as soon as I am able.
