AM Wrap around care - 7:30 - 8:50am - Students ride the AV-W bus to school or be dropped off by parents (at the 4K-2 playground gate) between 7:30 & 7:47am. Students attending wrap around care will be taken to breakfast, have a story time, free choice time, and recess.
4K day begins - 8:50am - Students ride the 4K bus to school or be dropped off by parents on the 4K-2 playground between 8:50 & 9:10am.
Daily Organization - 9:10-9:20am - Students will head to their classrooms to get ready for the day, unpack their belongs, and have attendance taken.
Crew - 9:20-9:40am - This is a time for greetings, singing songs, giving and sharing information, telling stories, and developing a sense of community. During this time the children participate in calendar and weather activities. New concepts and materials are also introduced.
Math Corner - 9:40-10:10am - Our 4K programming uses the curriculum "Bridges in Mathematics for Pre-K". This is a time when 4K students will be explicitly taught math concepts.
Choice Time & Small Group Work - 10:10-11:00am - Small group time is a teacher directed time where the children work in small groups. Various skills are worked on which may focus on the current theme, or a specific goal for a child. Choice Time is a child directed block of time, which is an important part of the day. Children determine which area of the room they would like to explore, what it is that they will be doing, and how they are going to use the materials provided for them.
Letter Work/Story Time/Music & Movement - 11:00-11:30am - This is a time 4K students will learn letter names, letter sounds, and other ELA concepts such as book handling skills, syllables, and other early literacy skills. This may also be a time for additional read-a-louds, music, and movement. Teachers have been trained in LETRS training and follow the Wisconsin Model of Early Learning Standards, Common Core State Standards, and AIMS to help guide our instruction.
Students attending 1/2 day session leave at 11:30am - Students will be picked up at the 4K-2 playground back gate at 11:30am
Lunch - 11:30-12:00pm - Students will be served lunch in the cafeteria.
Recess - 12:00-12:20pm - Weather permitting the children go outside for recess. Students go outside unless the temperature or windchill is below 0 degree F, or if it is raining.
Ouiet TIme (stories, fine motor activities, and puzzles) - 12:20-1:00pm - Students will be offered a quiet time. The focus during this time is to calm our bodies and take part in quiet activities such as reading books, coloring, doing puzzles, and/or other fine motor activities.
Expedition & Handwriting Time - 1:00-1:40pm - At AV-W, we complete 3 expeditions thoughout the year. Expeditions are units of study that are authentic to our students, their learning, and our community. We will also be implementing parts of Handwriting Without Tears to introduce beginning handwriting concepts and name writing with our students.
Closing Crew - 1:40-2:10pm - Students will debrief their day, sing songs, tell stories, and continue to develop a sense of community. Students will be picked up by parents between 2:00 and 2:10 on the 4k-2 playground back gate, or they can ride the 4K only bus.
PM Wrap around care - 2:10-3:05pm - Students attending wrap around care will have snack and recess. They will be able to be picked up at 3:05 on the 4K-2 playground by the back gate or ride the AV-W bus at the end of the day.
