Students are placed on a waiting list until a spot becomes available in their grade level. Students with siblings residing at the same address will receive priority. This opening will sometimes occur during the academic school year. Parents will be contacted by a Vanguard office staff member and be given the option to take that spot or remain on the waitlist until the start of the next academic year (if a position is available at that time). Students will stay in their original waitlist position if they wait until the start of the next academic year. There should be no expectation or guarantee made that a spot will open up for the upcoming year. If an offer of enrollment is made for the upcoming school year and it is declined, the student's position on the waitlist will change to the date of the offer of enrollment. (For example: If your waitlist application was submitted on June 1, 2023, and an offer of enrollment was made and declined by the parent on May 1, 2024, the application date would be changed to the offer date of May 1, 2024 and lower the student's position on the waitlist.)
Next Steps…
Once parents are contacted by the Vanguard office staff and they accept the open spot, parents/guardians will have one week to contact AVUSD Central Enrollment to schedule an appointment for a change of placement via an intra-district transfer. Central Enrollment will inform parents of the documentation needed to complete the process and schedule the appointment. Upon completion of enrollment through the district, parents/guardians will be contacted by the Vanguard office staff again and informed of their student's official start date.
