Fee Waiver Program

The fee waiver program was established to assist economically disadvantage high school students. Students are encouraged to pick up a fee application in the College and Career center and have it filled out/signed by a parent or guardian at the beginning of the school year. Upon approval, students will be eligible to reduce pricing on ACT/AP/SAT test, college applications, and NAIA/NCAA registration. Applications must be renewed yearly.

Fee Waiver Eligibility

Fee waiver eligibility is determined by family size and household income. High school students meet eligibility requirements when at least one of the following criteria is meet:

        • Student is enrolled in or eligible to participate in the federal National School Lunch Program.

(Since Granite Hills High School participates in Community Eligibility for the National School Lunch Program during the 2018/2019 school, eligibility must be met with one additional criteria).
        • Student's family income falls within the income eligibility guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.

        • Student is enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g. Federal TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).

        • Student's family receives public assistance

        • Student lives in a federally subsidized public housing, foster home, or is homeless.

        • Student is a ward of the state or an orphan.

College Applications

The California UC and CSU application system has a separate process to grant fee waivers. This is an internal process that will determine eligibility through the online application. The UC and CSU application has a few questions at the end that determine eligibility. There is no going back to change the information, so it is very important for students to put the correct information in the first time. Eligible students are able to use the waiver to apply for admission to 4 campuses.

The SAT Collegeboard fee waiver process grants 4 fee waivers that may be used at any of the 2,000+ participating colleges. Students that have taken the SAT or one of the SAT Subject Test are able to use their fee waiver code to receive their college application fee waivers. The waiver may be used to complete applications on the Coalition, Common, or Universal College Application processes.

Each of these application platforms has a process in place to allow eligible students to have their application fee waived, and generally do not require you to submit your College Board fee waivers.

Coalition App - students can determine their eligibility for a fee waiver by answering a brief series of questions while creating their Coalition profile. If a student qualifies for a fee waiver from the College Board (or qualify based on any of the other questions), they will automatically bypass the payment screen when submitting their application to a member school.

Common App - students will be asked on the application whether their financial circumstances qualify them for a fee waiver. If a student has received an SAT fee waiver, that should be indicated. The student's high school counselor will be asked to verify eligibility.

Universal College Application - students will check the “fee waiver” box on their application and submit the fee waiver form to the college or university they are applying to.

All other colleges - students will submit the application fee waiver forms included in their College Board account directly to the institution. Students should ensure the college/university is a participating school and or will accept a fee waiver.

NCAA Registration

Students are eligible to have the NCAA registration fee waived if they have received a waiver for the SAT or ACT or if they meet the USDA income eligibility guidelines and provisions. Students must register online with the NCAA before the fee waiver can be processed. In the payment section there is an option to indicate fee waiver eligible. After a student has completed their registration they need to submit a request to the College & Career Center to process their waiver verification with the NCAA.

NAIA Registration

Students are eligible to have the NAIA registration fee waived if they have received a waiver for the SAT or ACT or if they meet the USDA income eligibility guidelines and provisions. Students must register online with the NAIA before the fee waiver can be processed. If payment is made prior to a fee waiver being received, the payment is not refundable. After a student has completed their registration they need to submit a request to the College & Career Center to process their waiver verification with the NAIA.
