Move deliberately along the snow surface until the numbers on your transceiver begin to go up. At this point, mark the snow. Without rotating or turning the transceiver, move backwards along the same line until the numbers go up again. Mark the point at which the transceiver displayed the lowest number.
When multiple rescuers are present, the person who isn’t conducting a transceiver search can assemble their probe and shovel. This person may step in to pinpoint the victim with their probe. Otherwise, the person conducting the transceiver search will need to assemble their probe and begin probing, perpendicular to the snow surface, at the marked point. Continue probing along an expanding spiral at 10 in (25cm) intervals. When you strike the victim with your probe, leave it in the snow and begin shoveling.
