Message from Principal

Lori Conner

Dear Altar Valley Families,

Did you know that being grateful to others and giving thanks has healthy affects on our bodies and our minds? According to research studies, these facts are true, and can help us in many different ways! At Robles Elementary School, we continue to teach students reading, writing, math, but along with the academic curriculum we strive to teach positive social skills, including being kind and grateful toward others.

We are in the midst of the holiday season and I encourage you to find time for small acts of kindness, including being grateful toward others. Helping children learn ways to show thanks is rewarding and can create lifelong, healthy habits. Please take a moment to read about our 2nd grade classes and how teachers have been supporting their students to become life-long learners!

Thank you,

Mrs. Conner, Principal

2nd Grade

Now that fall is here our 2nd graders have been involved in many fall activities while learning and mastering the 2nd grade standards. In mathematics we are working hard to understand place values, specifically looking to identify and locate the ones, tens, and hundreds place value. Additionally, we are learning different aspects of how different cultures celebrate and honor harvest time and Halloween. We have explored many cultures, including those in our area, while gaining the understanding and importance of Day of the Dead, or Dia de Los Muertos. We found out about these traditions through reading literature and books. Another activity that we recently completed involved a Pumpkin study by dissecting a pumpkin, counting the seeds, identifying parts of the pumpkin, and writing about our discoveries. As we completed our first grading quarter of the year we also administered the benchmark testing, also known as our Galileo testing. All of our 2nd graders test throughout the week on the subjects of Writing, Reading, and Math so that, as teachers, we can use this information to identify next steps in the lesson planning and learning process. We are dedicated to help all Robles Bobcats build, grow, flourish and succeed!
