Welcome to December Bobcat Families,

I hope this letter finds you well. As we approach the middle of the school year, I would like to update you on some important matters and share exciting upcoming events at Robles.

1. Reading at Home:

Reading is a fundamental skill that plays a crucial role in your child's academic success. We encourage all parents to actively engage in reading activities at home with their children. Whether it's reading together, discussing books, or encouraging independent reading, these activities contribute significantly to your child's literacy development. The Pima County Book Mobile brings a library to the Community Center Tuesday Afternoons, which can be an opportunity to discover new books to read together.

2. Practicing Math Facts at Home:

In addition to reading, practicing math facts at home is equally important. Regular practice of math facts enhances mathematical fluency and boosts confidence in problem-solving. We recommend incorporating math activities into your daily routine to reinforce what is being taught in the classroom. Each grade level is assessed on specific math fluency skills. Using flash cards at home can be a great way to help.

3. Benchmark Assessments:

As part of our ongoing commitment to monitor and support student progress, we will be conducting Benchmark Assessments during the week of December 11th. These assessments provide valuable insights into your child's academic growth and help us tailor our teaching methods to better meet their individual needs. It is important that your students attend school these days and be ready to do their best on the assessment.

4. Family Fun Night - Santa's Village:

We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Family Fun Night - Santa's Village on December 14th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Join us for an evening of festive activities, games, and the opportunity to capture memorable moments with Santa himself! A delicious lasagna dinner will also be served during the event. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together, celebrate the holiday season, and enjoy the spirit of community. We look forward to seeing you there!

We appreciate your ongoing support and collaboration in ensuring the success of our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season!

Sincerely,

Dustie Gunn-Ader

Hello Altar Valley Families!

Being able to share the activities of our 2nd Grade Bobcats from the start of the school year fills us with great excitement. We are quite proud of our students since they have been using Galileo Benchmarks for testing from the start and have been working extremely hard on them despite being relatively new to it!  Furthermore, since the start of 2nd grade, we have made it a point to uphold the Robles ROAR motto, which stands for "Respectful, Open-minded, Accountable, and Responsible." For the younger bobcats, this implies that students should always act appropriately and set a good example for them.

Through writing, kids are exposed to new spelling patterns that expand their word knowledge and enhance their general reading and writing abilities. To ensure that they are capable of handling the new spelling patterns for the 2nd grade, we also go over the 1st grade spelling patterns. Along with understanding the significance of placing a subject, noun, and punctuation correctly, 2nd graders are also taught how to construct a whole sentence.

Reading is very important for students as they are learning about the story structure, being able to summarize a story, compare and contrast and use text and graphic features to describe parts of a story. But, our primary goal is for them to be able to identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe, and be capable of describing how reasons support specific points the author makes in a text.

In Mathematics, the school has invested in a new curriculum. The students have been learning about addition and subtraction up to 100. They have also been learning about the U.S. customary measurements by using different tools. Manipulatives are used by the students to understand and master the different math concepts in real-time and real settings. But not only that, we also integrate technology with our instructions such as Education.com, 99Math, IXL, Prodigy and many more.

We will be collaborating closely with our 2nd graders to achieve great success this year by improving their Benchmark test results on a consistent basis, increasing their reading fluency and comprehension skills in Acadience testing, and exceeding their CBM test results. With teamwork, nothing is insurmountable!
