The Family Resource Center is designed to serve and support families with children birth through age 5. The Family Resource Center is funded by First Things First with United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona serving as the lead grantee, and implemented in partnership with Casa de los Niños, Easterseals Blake Foundation, Make Way for Books, Parent Aid and UA Community Extension Programs. All programs and activities are FREE.

Programs at the Family Resource Center will include fun, hands-on activities that encourage interaction between children and their grown-ups. These parenting activities are designed to support the children’s development, provide information and resources to families and nurture their sense of community with other parents.

Parent education courses will also be offered across a variety of topics from positive discipline to supporting children through divorce. Childcare will be offered during these courses with some workshops being available virtually.

Finally, the Center will offer more intensive support for families who need help in navigating complex systems to provide for their children.

Classes are held in the Family Resource Center at Robles Elementary.

STORYTIME & CRAFT

We celebrated Read Across America Spirit Week at Robles Elementary by hosting our Story Time and Craft class! Our families joined us in reading Brown Brown, Brown Bear, What do you see? (Bill Martin Jr/Eric Carle 1967) in English and Spanish. The parents and children learned about colors, animals, and practiced their fine motor skills during our craft time. They were able to take home their lacing cards to continue practicing and learning at home. They enjoyed their snack and played together before heading home.

POTTY TRAINING TODAY

Our families learned about the best practices for their journey to the no diaper life. We engaged in a discussion about what strategies they’ve tried, what has worked and what has not worked. Everyone was supportive of each other and encouraged each other throughout this potty training process. Each family was able to take home a copy of The First-Time Parent’s Guide to Potty Training: How to Ditch Diapers Fast (and for Good!) (Jazmine McCoy 2020), a bilingual children’s book about the potty, their own toilet seat, and underwear for each child.
