Student Achievements
Students competed in the Mendo-Lake Section Leadership Development Events at Mendocino College. FFA members participated in FFA Creed Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Job Interview. Three members are moving on to the North Coast Regionals in March. One student placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking. One student placed 4th in Job Interview. One student placed 4th in Impromptu Speaking. - Beth Swehla, Boonville-AV FFA.

AVJSHS Highlights
Throughout the WASC process we found many different growth areas. However, we do want to first acknowledge all of the amazing things happening at our school. Below is a list of highlights:
Personal Learning Plan Meetings (99 percent parent participation and a highlight for many!)

Increasing mentorship learning throughout the valley through CTE Assignments
Summer student paid interns
Robust travel opportunities funded through Anderson Valley Education Foundation
Expansion of after school clubs and athletics
Sent students to National FFA and Statewide Conventions
Student driven Class Food Bank Competition with more than 700 pounds of food donated for Anderson Valley Food Bank.
Return of Three Day Basketball Tournament Redwood Classic.
Discontinuation of Gate fees for all sports to encourage parent and community participation.
Renewed emphasis on out of area field trips and college visits in lower grade levels.
Career College Fair planned for February.
Facility improvements
Due to intense political pressure, Office of Public School Construction is coming to visit the site for a walkthrough to support additional hardship funding on February 16.
Improved campus atmosphere with painting and portable furniture and outdoor activities
Passage of $13 million dollar bond with 72% of the vote in June 2021, modernization plans underway with construction slated in Summer 2024 for new science wings and library classroom wing.
New installation of gym heaters after ten years with no heat paid for by OPSC Hardship funding.
Installation of $600,000 HVAC project on original 1950s high school wing and science rooms completed with ESSER funding in Fall 2022.

Because we are a small school, teachers are able to build strong and lasting relationships with the students throughout their high school careers and beyond, which produces better learning experiences and outcomes.

Implementation of weekly writing prompt to increase writing stamina and expectations
