Our Library/Media Team

The library at AELC is buzzing with excitement as our kindergarten students are checking out books from all over the library and enjoying many different Makerspace activities each week.

• They have learned all about how to care for our books.

• They have learned how to find a book, check it out, put it in their pouch and take it home to enjoy.

• They know that their books and pouches are best friends like peanut butter and jelly!

• They keep them together so they don’t lose their library books from week to week.

• They have also learned the difference between fiction and non-fiction.

• They love finding books in our newly, somewhat genrefied library.

It is a work in progress but the bins with picture clues are a real bonus for our kindergarteners where their love for reading and learning begins here at AELC.  It’s been an incredible start to a new year!

At East Library 1st and 2nd graders are learning about how a library runs.

• They are learning to “borrow” the books. It’s cute that some students think their library card is a debit card and that they are buying the books when they are checking them out.

• They are also learning responsibility for their books.  They are learning how to keep their books in a safe space, away from their pets, away from their water bottles, and that their books need to be returned by a certain date.

• Our Makerspace Area has seen many creations using Lego’s, Spiky blocks, Wooden blocks, Magnetic Tiles and Roller Coasters made from Marble Run.

Thank you to the Boosters for all their hard work in running the Scholastic Book Fair. Many students visited and enjoyed making new book purchases. They also had their first lesson in what is “tax”.  Not an easy task.
