Review: This week we started Figurative Language. We've done simile, metaphor , hyperbole and alliteration. Below is the slideshow we use in class for students who are absent. You will also find this on my Google Classroom.
As a reminder, STUDENTS are in charge of getting themselves caught up by using the agenda when they return, emailing ME while they're absent and asking what they missed.
They need to initiate the conversation about what they missed.
We will finish the week with our IXL diagnostic on the IXL platform.
Preview Next week, there is no school on Monday , September 15.
We will do our Fall NWEA on Tuesday, Sept 16th.
We will then start reading poetry and prose using Figurative Language.
We will also start learning about our Greek and Latin Roots in English ( GALRIE)

REVIEW:
This week all students learned the rules and procedures of school and classroom. In English class, we also talked about Figurative Language. We defined and gave examples of simile, metaphor, and personification. Some classes also talked about idioms, alliteration and onomatopoeia.
PREVIEW:
Next week, we will dive into academics. Students will continue learning about figurative language, practice identifying the different kinds, and writing their own unique examples. We will also start our first GALRIE (Greek and Latin Roots in English) unit. By the end of the week, we may be ready to dive into some poetry. If not we’ll start that the following week.

Next week, students will get their government tests back from last week. We will review and discuss, and students who choose will be given retake opportunities on either Thursday, June 5th or Friday, June 6th. We will continue with our government unit throughout the week, finishing up our in-depth look at democracies, monarchies, theocracies, and dictatorships. We will also spend a day or two delving into how and why governments interact, focusing on treaties.
