This week, we're doing our voice checks. This is an opportunity to practice speaking loudly and clearly on stage.

The Main Gym construction is finally complete and it looks beautiful! We broke it in by playing some kickball and dodgeball since the rainy weather kept us inside this week. We will hopefully be able to go outside to continue our Mile Run training next week.

Intro to Tech 6
This week the students worked on internet safety, social media, and cyberbullying. They continue to work on both typing club and Nitrotype to hone their keyboarding skills. Nex week we will focus on internet research.

Exploring French 6
This week we took our first small assessments. Students took a listening test on Wednesday and a culture test on Friday. Students have also been working on their greetings project which was due on Thursday. Scores for the greetings project will be passed back next week. We will be finishing Unit 1 with our remaining assessments on Wednesday, October 1. Students will be taking a small reading, writing and speaking test. On Monday and Tuesday, we will be reviewing for the assessments.

We're working towards singing in the Homecoming Parade. The students are working very hard to perfect "The Best Of Broadway" medley. Students should meet at the parade route at 4:45 p.m.

This week, we are adding and subtracting rational numbers. Next week, we will be learning multiplication and division of rational numbers.

ELD 3 (6th grade)
We are starting a writing assignment about the short story we read last week. Students will be telling a story of a time they lost something important to them and explaining whether or not they found it. We will spend the rest of the week doing multiple drafts and perfecting our writing.
ELD 4 (6th, 7th, & 8th grades)
We are starting a writing assignment where students are writing from the perspective of the main character (Nya) of the short story we read aloud last week. They will be using knowledge of the story we read and previous knowledge about the African culture to put themselves in Nya's shoes and explain how her life changes when the waterwell and school were built. Students will do writer's workshops to perfect their writing to ensure they are writing at a WIDA level 4.8+ and next week we will read our stories aloud.

AMS Publications 8
Happy Spirit Week! This week, yearbook staff was hard at work taking pictures of our first Spirit Week of the school year and documenting our first Spirit Assembly. They also began work on marketing the yearbook to AMS students, family, and staff by promoting the Yearbook Avenue Photo Share link and yearbook sales. Last week students learned about the Holland Code Work Styles Theory and how it relates to the types of workers needed for specific careers. Students gained Holland Code vocabulary knowledge and job training vocabulary. They will identify at least two career pathways for themselves. Students will begin working a Personality Style Chart. Students will learn about the Michigan Career Zones Pathways this week. Students have been taking notes throughout all these lessons for the past two weeks and completing assignments to prepare for QUIZ #2 on Wednesday, October 1st. Soon they will be exploring careers and complete their research on a Jobs Grid spreadhseet. All assignments for this class are submitted in Google Classroom. Students are required to complete, independently, 30 minutes of typing lessons each week by Sunday night in Typing Club as part of their homework. The Grocery Homework Project is due by 11:59pm on Sunday, September 28th. Students will submit their work in Google Classroom. An email was sent out to all parents on September 16th with details about this project.
